I've been getting a lot of disappointed emails and several questions about it on formspring so I thought I would just address it in a post.
Why you don't see my damn mug as often as before (and other musings): <-- not really, I just thought it sounded better like that
- I can't remember the last time I shopped. I'm not a big shopper to begin with - I'll buy a crap load of things in one sitting and then take a long hiatus. I wish I had a disposable wardrobe like a lot of style bloggers, BUT I DON'T. Plus, I don't shop anymore because: 1) I rather spend my money on other things like home improvement, weekend getaways, and photography equipment and 2) I now work from home...
- ...which means I rarely get "dressed". My work uniform now consists of yoga pants and a tee/tank/hoody. Yup, sexy. And when I go out, it's because I have to run errands and my running errands outfit is jeans, Converse, tee/tank/hoody (yeah, I basically swap out the yoga pants for jeans). I wish I could tell you that I prance around in 3" heels and my latest
sluttyfashionable outfit to go to the bank or buy dog food, but I'm almost 31...I don't have the patience and the last time I pranced, my age was in the single digits. - I don't have paparazzi aka bf/husband/brother/sister/lover/dog trailing me with a camera snapping my every move. Mister works...he works a lot. And when I interrupt him in the middle of a conference call to "take outfit pictures", he looks at me like I've
gone ape shitlost it. - And when Mister does take photos of me, we inevitably fight. Not argue, fight. And I'll be damned if my blog is the demise of our relationship. "How many pics do you need...I just want to make sure I have a few good ones...I'm hungry...No, don't get too close and don't cut off my head or feet...Can we go now...Did you get detailed shots...WTF are detailed shots?..."
- Mister sucks at taking pictures.
- I can use a tripod and go that route, but there's nowhere to shoot at our place. We're constantly doing work, adding furniture, moving furniture, so it's a nightmare trying to find a good spot. And my old backdrop? It got completely annihilated in the storms we've had this winter. Ok, just kidding. It fell and we ended up moving it.
- I hate taking photos. HAAAATE. I thought after doing all those lookbook posts, I'd be able to smile into the lens as if it were an old friend. Uh..no. I admire the bloggers who can pose and smirk and vogue a la duck face to rival Snookie, but it's just not in me. I feel awkward, nervous, and plain stupid. Like a butcher at a vegetarian summit. Like, who the f*ck invited you?
You'll see outfit posts here 1-2 times a week...And if I can teach Bruno how to take photos, perhaps more. Also, if you want to see more lifestyle posts (I know, like, wtf is a lifestyle post? But it's what the kids are doing these days, I guess.) shoot me an email or leave a comment here with your suggestion. So far, I made a note to do a desk/work space post and a closet post (<-- Seriously, do you really want to see my collection of yoga pants?). If there's any other part of my life you think might be remotely interesting, let me know!*
*Not guaranteed I'll post about it cuz well, shit, it's my blog and I decide.
And because everybody loves a post with pictures, here's the token photo:

i struggle with the picture taking myself...i hate my picture face...i look so stupid!
right now, i only have time for outfit posts because they are so quick and easy!!!! :(
I totally understands you... I feel weird taking photos of myself and like you my mister have other things to do than to follow me around with a camera.=)
omg, my hubs totally sucks at taking photos, too! i try to direct him, but it rarely works. on the other hand, i like taking photos of anything and everything. when we are out on weekends walking around town or going to eat, i become HIS paparazzi. now i might put together a look book for him ;)
and do post your workspace and closet space. i'm always interested in how others keep organized :)
i work from home so my "work outfit" is similar to yours. my hubs also sucks at taking pictures. he limits me to 3 pics. it sucks too because he's so tall and he can't figure out how to take pics of me where my calves don't look freakishly short.
Ooh forget about getting the guys to help take pictures. We're both impatient about it because he can't ever seem to take what I want. Like, what you can't read my mind?! You can't frame the background perfectly?! Where are my feet? Loser! Haha and this is why he doesn't take my picture that often.
You should do outfit posts because you have fun with it, not because you feel like you should. I love your outfits anyway, if you only take them when you're wearing something fancy, so be it. I'll just be jealous because it looks like you're dressed up all the time.
Ooh are you going to make prints of the Ava Gardner and pearls pictures? I'll buy one!
Those times when I don't post outfits for weeks at a time = I'm wearing the same cardigan and jeans with a different tank top to work for a week straight. We're only human and sometimes life takes precedence (blasphemy coming from a fashion blogger!).
Can't wait to see your closet and workspace!
I am completely, hopelessly and definitely there!
... Except I never had too many mug shots to begin with and I have almost no style to speak of.
In other words: I'm relating. Nice post!
gosh, you should be able to post what you want. Too much pressure for bloggers not to grow and change in the blogosphere, I reckon.

I hate taking pictures of myself, too, but I know that's what people like to see! And that's what I like to see when I visit other blogs, so I try to do a couple of lookbooks per week. I do like all of your posts, though, not just the outfit ones! :)
When I first found your blog, I thought you were just another fashion blogger (albeit one I loved seeing pics of!). But I love that you're not like all the other fashion bloggers, and you realize that life is so much more than what Erin Wasson was spotted wearing and who got to go to what show at Bryant Park. Fashion is fun, and I love seeing your outfits, but I love that we're friends more!
I'm a bad photographer and my husband is worse. We've definitely had fights about it. He'll take one crappy photo and instead of directing me to do something different, take a million more at that same angle with the same lighting and wonder why it still looks bad....
Nina this post made me LMAO right here in my couch. Although I only discovered your blog about a year ago, I've gone through the archives and I've enjoyed seeing your natural progression. We all change and evolve with time. I love your blog. I love that you're dedicated to your job and save your money for travel and other things you enjoy.
Life is all about changes, what would become of us if we never changed?
Nina - you rock with or without the outfit posts! I love this post. It's so true, it's our blogs so we can damn well write what we want to write. Even though J knows how to take pictures, sometimes I want different pictures than my standard ones but then those never turn out because he's like "you want WHAT?" and then I'm like "UGH! Nevermind! Go away!" lol.
I was laughing so hard at this
"I know, like, wtf is a lifestyle post? But it's what the kids are doing these days, I guess."
because when I started getting requests for those I seriously thought "WTF is a lifestyle post?" haha!
furniture and home improvement can certainly kill one's budget. I was shocked how much my wood floor cost and granite counter top did me in.... : )
Nina, I identify and agree with a lot of your points here! I hope you don't feel pressured to provide certain posts of any type, because that's not how your blog should be. Like what you said, it's your blog and you can just post whatever you want :D
And if it makes you feel better, KL sucks at taking photos too....and rolls his eyes at me every time I ask! :D
lol what a great post...the part where Mister gets annoyed at taking pictures made me laugh! That's my hubby too, I mostly take pictures of food and he just wants to eat!
I do miss your lookbooks but totally understand where you're coming from. Is it nice to work from home now?
You are 31?? Ok, I know I got much more of the post than this, but seriously, 31?? Nina!! I seriously thought you were like 21!!! Just not a typical 21 year old! I've heard you talk about Mister being together for a long time, but it never really clicked. Now I feel like I can relate to you more!
I would love to do outfit pics but i'm not stylin' enough, lol.
I totally get it, I'm sooo stylish and put together in my head and then life gets in the way.
You rock no matter what.....
So I haven't read your spring forum. And as much as I like your outfit posts, I like the many other things you blog about to.
LOL, this was a hilarious post. I, for one, as a student, would love to hear your thoughts on the best/favorite yoga pants. :)
I actually don't mind that you don't have many outfit posts, and when there is one it makes it more special. Dude what IS a lifestyle post? haha
i love your rants and they're totally understandable! i love your blog regardless and i've been reading it regularly, with or without the outfit posts :) I do miss your outfit posts though, but your other posts are equally entertaining and inspiring as well :)
I love this point you made: "I wish I could tell you that I prance around in 3" heels and my latest ??slutty?? fashionable outfit to go to the bank or buy dog food"
I agree 100% with this. Sometime I wonder if they actually wear the outfit out or just for the sake of taking pictures for the blog. Beats me! :p

I end up pacing like a jailed lion when trying to take outfit pics so I don't do it very often as I also lack a personal paparazzi and haven't gotten around to buying a tripod so Im left to angle the camera on chairs and books to get the frame I want...anoying!
oooh, thanks for the pant rec!
your mister sounds very hot btw. you guys sound like you guys have a great relationship. :)
Girl, I think you look absolutely beautiful in pictures! I miss seeing your face! :T
btw, i added your website to my blogroll thing. hope you dont mind. :)
Thank you.=)
Checked out your shop. Nice shoes.
I always hate my photos I take for What I'm Wearing Wednesday lol. I wish I had someone to take them!!
Great post! Hilarious.
I like your token photo...I too hate to have my photo taken, and a blog with photos is a LOT of work!
Gosh, I honestly felt like I was reading something that I had written myself here. Except replace the Mister with my younger sister. I always say that when she takes pictures of me she turns into a complete Diva. She gets this attitude about her and we end up almost clawing each other's eyes out. I don't even bother to ask anymore; I can take perfectly decent - albeit headless - pictures of my outfits myself, thank you very much!! :)
girl, you do whatever YOU want! it's your blog!
I finally enlisted my sis to snap my pics when I needed them. The hubs and I had the same scenario going on as you guys!
As you've been told before, "lol what a great post..." Indeed!
Poor husbands, it looks like many of them need to work on their photo skills! :D
Anyway, I'm glad there will be outfit posts every now and then.
love love LOVE you lady.
I totally feel you on everything you wrote here.
