postponed

As some of you already know, we're still in LA. Yup...we're home. We never made it to Cabo. FM and I made it to LAX fine...security was a breeze and we were actually fairly early. While we were waiting at the gate, the airline makes the following announcement:

"Due to Hurricane Jimena, we strongly suggest you re-think traveling to Cabo San Lucas. If you would like to change your flight, please come to the desk."

Uh...

FM & I were already pretty nervous about flying because of Jimena so we looked at each other and basically said *f#$% this*. We went up to the counter and ended up speaking to 3 different attendants. They each said the same thing: "If I were you, I wouldn't fly." The airline was actually sending a larger plane down to Cabo so they could rescue people out of Mexico.

Ok, that sealed the deal. We grabbed our bags and hightailed it out of the airport. Since everybody thought we were out of town and nobody knew where we were, we decided to play hooky and ended up driving to Santa Barbara. The weather was absolutely gorgeous and we hung out at and did NOTHING. Just what the doctor ordered. Initially we planned on spending the night there (since we were already packed and all) but decided it would be nice to go home and sleep in our own bed after the long day we had. So we left SB after sunset, picked up Bruno from his sitter's, and the 3 of us were finally back home.

So...tomorrow we will attempt to make it to Cabo again. The airlines allowed us to switch our dates w/out any penalties and since our hotel has been taken care of til Sat., we decided it's better if we go this week. Our friends have been down there since last Sat. and besides heavy rain, it seems to be ok. Jimena's apparently moving away from Cabo so by later this evening things should quiet down. I hope.

There's a park in SB that is one of my favorite places in the world. I call it the Secret Garden park cuz it's so tucked away - unless you know where it is, it's near impossible to find. We discovered it a couple of yrs ago when we were driving around. The place is just serene and beautiful I always make FM take me there when we're in town since he knows where it is. FM is a UCSB alumnus so he knows SB like the back of his hand. Which is why we're always driving up there cuz he misses it.
